Grok Arrives in Polish Teslas with Summer Update

Tesla drivers in Poland are gaining access to Grok, the built-in voice assistant developed by Elon Musk's xAI. The rollout is part of this year's Summer Update, which covers all of Europe and for the first time gives the assistant control over the car's cabin functions.

What the update changes

Until now, Grok in European Teslas operated in a limited capacity: answering questions, setting navigation routes and suggesting destinations based on vague descriptions. A driver could, for example, ask it to find "a good coffee shop along the way" instead of typing in an exact address.

The Summer Update extends the assistant's permissions beyond conversation alone. Grok can now take calls, search for music and podcasts, adjust cabin temperature and open the glovebox on voice command. It's the first time the chatbot has gained direct access to the car's hardware rather than just its conversational layer.

Why Poland waited longer

Although the February software update 2026.2.6 introduced Grok in several European countries, including the UK, Germany and France, Poland and Norway were left out for the time being. The delay relative to the North American launch in July 2025 stemmed from compliance requirements under the EU's GDPR, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the AI Act, which Tesla had to roll out market by market.

It's only July's Summer Update that closes this gap, extending Grok availability to every country on the continent, including Poland. According to reports from local Tesla forums, an update numbered close to 2026.2.6 had already appeared in Poland's rollout statistics earlier on, but official activation of the feature only happened now.

How the assistant works

Grok in Tesla offers a choice of personalities, ranging from an analytical and storyteller mode to an "Unhinged" mode, along with several voice options. Conversations are processed anonymously by xAI and, according to the manufacturer's assurances, are not directly linked to the vehicle's VIN. The assistant runs alongside Tesla's standard voice commands, so drivers can use both systems interchangeably.

Hardware requirements and supported models

The feature is available on the Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor, meaning units built from late 2021 onward. Older vehicles with an Intel Atom processor remain without access to Grok. Running the assistant requires an active Premium Connectivity subscription or a stable Wi-Fi connection, since query processing happens in the cloud rather than locally in the car.

At the time of the European rollout, the update also included other changes unrelated to Grok, among them the ability to unlock the charging port via the rear left door handle and a system for detecting a child left inside the car.

What this means for Polish drivers

For Tesla owners in Poland, this marks the end of a months-long delay relative to the rest of the continent and gives them access to features that have been running in the United States for a year. Extending Grok's permissions to cabin control brings it closer to being a full-fledged onboard assistant, similar to those offered by rival premium brands, though built on xAI's language model rather than closed rule-based systems.

The rollout also fits into Elon Musk's broader strategy of integrating Grok across xAI and Tesla products, from cars to planned features in other devices. For the European market, where data and AI regulations are stricter than in the US, the pace of any further expansion of the assistant's permissions will depend on compliance with EU rules.
