British startup Journi has launched DevOS, a self-hosted platform that measures the real return on investment from tools like Claude Code and Cursor. The system is designed to give companies control over the costs and security of coding agents, rather than deploying them unsupervised.

Software companies have rolled out AI coding agents en masse, but few of them can actually calculate how much they're gaining or losing from it. British startup Journi is addressing that gap with DevOS, a platform designed to measure the costs, performance, and risk associated with tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and other coding agents, running entirely inside the customer's own infrastructure.

The Unmeasured Problem

According to figures cited in trade media, AI coding agents have already reached nearly every large software organization, with adoption approaching close to 100 percent. Companies pay for licenses, tokens, and infrastructure, but rarely have a tool that tells them plainly whether that investment pays off, how much a single task handed to an agent costs, or where AI is generating technical debt instead of reducing it.

Journi says DevOS fills that gap. The platform tracks coding agent usage in real time, shows how AI-generated changes affect the system as a whole, and automatically summarizes documentation and code so models have less data to process with each query. That translates directly into token bills, since a smaller context means a lower cost per model query.

What the Numbers Show

The company says that in early tests, customers saw up to 55 percent lower AI operating costs on selected coding tasks and a 57 percent drop in computing resource usage. The most striking figure, though, is a reduction of more than 90 percent in the volume of technical data an agent has to analyze before completing a task, the result of automatically summarizing code and documentation instead of sending full files to the model with every query.

These figures come from the vendor itself and haven't yet been verified by independent industry testing, which is worth keeping in mind when assessing the real scale of savings for any given organization.

Oversight Instead of Blind Trust

The second pillar of DevOS is governance and oversight of what coding agents actually do inside company repositories. The platform gives teams visibility into which changes were made by a human and which by AI, and lets them set rules that limit how much agents are allowed to do. It's a response to growing industry unease that more and more production code is being written without full control over what was changed and why.

Why Self-Hosted

Journi emphasizes that DevOS can be deployed entirely within the customer's own environment, without sending source code, AI context, or company data to external servers. That matters for companies in regulated sectors, finance, healthcare, and government, where compliance and data security requirements often rule out tools that rely solely on an external vendor's cloud.

That deployment model sets DevOS apart from many competing platforms for managing AI in code, which run as cloud services hosted by the vendor. For organizations sensitive about data ownership, that could be the deciding factor in choosing a tool.

What It Means for Polish Companies

For Polish development teams, which are increasingly turning to coding agents, the problem of accounting for costs and risk is identical to what's happening in Western markets. Earlier data showed that a significant share of companies had already suffered an outage caused by AI-written code, and developers admit to growing dependent on agents without fully understanding the code being generated. Tools like DevOS fit into a growing category of products meant to answer those concerns with numbers instead of promises.

The governance segment for AI in code is still taking shape, and Journi is far from the only player trying to claim a piece of it. Major cloud providers and rival startups are working on similar oversight layers, so whether the claimed savings translate into real-world deployments at scale will become clear over the coming months as independent customer reviews start to arrive.
