Meta Launches Muse Image, Its First In-House Image Generation Model
Meta has launched Muse Image, its first image generation model built by Meta Superintelligence Labs under Alexander Wang, now rolling out in Meta AI, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Meta released Muse Image on Tuesday, its first proprietary image generation model since the company poured billions of dollars into rebuilding its AI lab under chief AI officer Alexander Wang. The model launched immediately in the Meta AI chatbot, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
What Meta Unveiled
Muse Image works alongside a reasoning model called Muse Spark, which parses complex user instructions, pulls in data from the web, and only then generates the final image. Meta says this lets the model handle multi-part prompts better than the company's earlier tools, which relied on outside providers.
One of the standout features is the ability to tag Instagram accounts with an @ mention, pulling publicly available photos of friends or creators into a generated image. The model can also blend several reference photos into one coherent composition and render clean, stylized text within an image, something that has long tripped up many AI generators.
Editing and App Integration
Users can sketch changes directly onto an image using selection tools, similar to a simple graphics app paired with generative AI. Finished results can be shared instantly to the feed, Stories, and chats across all of Meta's apps.
On Instagram and WhatsApp, the model already powers more than 30 new Stories effects, and Meta plans a feature for redesigning interiors using real products available from retailers and Facebook Marketplace. Muse Image will also roll out soon to Facebook and Messenger.
Business Model and Competition
Basic image generation stays free, but Meta is introducing subscription plans for users who want to create more images. That fits the company's broader strategy of monetizing AI through both consumer subscriptions and advertising services.
The launch puts Meta in direct competition with image generators from OpenAI, Google, and Midjourney. Unlike its rivals, Meta can instantly roll out a new model to billions of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook users, giving it a distribution edge even as it plays catch-up technologically.
Impact for Polish Creators and Businesses
For Polish content creators and small advertising businesses, this means a new, free tool for quickly producing promotional graphics right inside the apps they already use daily. The Advantage+ integration with Muse Image could lower production costs for online stores and local service providers who previously had to outsource graphic design work.
The watermark on every image is meant to limit the risk of the model being used for disinformation or impersonation, though the Instagram account-tagging feature is already raising questions about consent from people whose photos end up in compositions they had no part in creating.
Meta also says it is working on a video model, Muse Video, to round out its family of generative tools. No release date has been announced yet, but the direction suggests Meta wants to offer a full suite of image, text, and video generation within one ecosystem of apps.
