Kraków County to Equip Eight Schools with AI Labs

Kraków County will equip eight schools and educational institutions with eleven artificial intelligence labs. The equipment will go to students in Skawina, Krzeszowice, Skała, Giebułtów and Czernichów, with the investment financed by the Krajowy Plan Odbudowy (Poland's National Recovery Plan, funded through the EU) and European Union funds.

The information was reported by Kurier Krakowski, citing materials prepared by Kraków County. According to the county, eleven AI lab sets will go to a total of eight schools and centers managed by the county government. These include general secondary schools as well as vocational schools and an institution for students with special educational needs.

Which Schools Get the Equipment

New labs will be set up in Skawina, where the equipment will go to the General Secondary School, the Technical-Economic School Complex, and the Poczta Polska Special Educational Center. In Krzeszowice, the equipment will go to the General Secondary School and the Post-Primary School Complex. The remaining institutions are the School and Educational Center Complex in Skała, the Post-Primary School Complex in Giebułtów, and the Agricultural Continuing Education Center School Complex in Czernichów.

Kraków County's materials do not specify how the eleven sets will be divided among the eight listed institutions, meaning which schools will receive more than one lab.

What the Labs Will Include

Each of the eleven sets is expected to include sixteen laptops and a central unit dedicated to AI-related services. This is complemented by a Wi-Fi access point, an interactive display, and dedicated software for working with AI tools.

The package also includes supporting infrastructure: a mobile cabinet for storing and charging computer equipment, a backup UPS power supply for the central unit, and a USB HD camera with a microphone and tripod, useful for recordings and video conferencing.

The C13L Standard and Funding Source

The new labs are expected to meet the technical standards defined by the C13L indicator, described as "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratories." This means the equipment and its configuration are subject to centrally set requirements rather than being freely chosen by individual schools.

The investment was financed by the National Recovery Plan and European Union funds. The materials prepared by Kraków County do not state the total amount allocated for the purchase of the eleven equipment sets.

Purpose of the Investment

The local government stresses that access to modern technology is meant to prepare students to function in an increasingly digital environment. Under the plan, the labs are meant to help young people acquire skills useful in the labor market, as well as teach them to use new tools safely and efficiently.
