Mercedes-Benz Group and NVIDIA announced an expansion of their strategic partnership on October 16, 2026. The companies plan to jointly develop the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems, and later also SAE Level 4 applications, including so-called robolimousines.

What was announced

According to the announcement published on NVIDIA's website, the partners are combining Mercedes-Benz's engineering and safety expertise and its MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA's accelerated computing and AI. The expanded collaboration will cover the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems.

The shared foundation is Hyperion, the in-vehicle compute and sensor architecture. MB.OS is meant to support new driving functions and over-the-air updates, working together with Hyperion.

The technology stack

Alpamayo Stack is full-stack driving software with AI reasoning. According to the announcement, it covers point-to-point urban assistance, active safety and automated parking.

Halos adds to Mercedes-Benz's existing safety foundation. It includes a parallel safety stack that, as the companies describe it, provides redundancy and guardrails. The announcement presents no independent testing of the solution.

What the companies said

NVIDIA is our most important strategic partner in automated driving. - Jörg Burzer, member of the board of management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and chief technology officer, development and procurement

Burzer added that together the companies developed Mercedes-Benz's first assistance system for urban point-to-point driving for the western world. He called the expanded partnership a significant milestone that reflects trust built over the years. In his words, the aim is the best automated driving experience while upholding the safety standards customers expect.

Ali Kani, NVIDIA's vice president of automotive, said accelerated computing gives vehicles the intelligence to understand the world and reason through complex driving situations. According to Kani, the companies are building on Hyperion to bring that intelligence to the road, along with full-stack safety, and to make autonomous driving an everyday reality.

Beyond the car

The collaboration is not limited to driving. Mercedes-Benz also uses NVIDIA technologies in engineering simulation and in MO360, its digital production ecosystem, from virtual planning to AI-based applications. The partners aim to improve efficiency, flexibility and quality across the global production network.

For Polish readers, this is mainly a signal of direction: another major premium carmaker is basing its automated driving stack on NVIDIA's platform. For now, though, it is a strategic declaration. The announcement does not say when or where Level 4 systems will appear, or in which models, so it is unclear whether and when robolimousines will reach roads, including in Europe.
