Democrats Demand Trump Preserve Grok Chats and Say if Chatbot Advised Him

Representatives Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia wrote to the US president demanding he preserve records of his conversations with Grok and other AI models. They cite a Time report that Trump consulted xAI's chatbot about Maduro.
Two Democratic members of the US Congress have demanded that Donald Trump preserve all records of his conversations with the Grok chatbot and other artificial intelligence models. In the letter, they also ask outright whether the president consulted the systems on his decisions. Politico published the letter, and the Polish news agency PAP reported on it.
What the letter says
Raskin and Garcia, the ranking members of the Judiciary and Oversight committees, write that the Presidential Records Act requires conversations with AI models to be kept. They ask Trump to say whether he used Grok or other systems when making decisions. PAP's report from Washington, written by Oskar Górzyński, does not mention a deadline for a response.
The authors accuse the president of seeking advice from Grok but not from Congress. They also point to cybersecurity and operational security risks, the tendency of AI models to make mistakes, and the possibility that outsiders can manipulate their answers. In that context, they note that Musk has influenced the content Grok generates.
According to PAP, the lawmakers wrote that if the US president relies on political advice from a Hitler-friendly chatbot designed by Musk, one with a fondness for child pornography, to carry out his official duties, Americans have a right to know.
The basis for the allegations
The lawmakers relied on a Time article that cited a person close to the president. According to that reporting, Trump asked Grok how Venezuelans would react to the removal of Nicolás Maduro. The chatbot reportedly answered that Maduro is a brutal, unpopular dictator and that his ouster would probably be welcomed with joy.
The same reports say that after several hours with Grok during a December 2025 meeting with Musk, Trump concluded the model was brilliant. The intervention in Venezuela reportedly followed a few weeks later. Other reports say AI models were used to plan the operation itself and later strikes on Iran. These are media accounts, and the sources contain no confirmation from the White House.
In January 2026, US special forces captured Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Venezuela and flew them to New York, where they face drug trafficking charges. After his arrest, Maduro called himself a prisoner of war.
A nod to Grok's posts
The description of the chatbot as Hitler-friendly alludes to Grok's earlier posts on the X platform praising Hitler. The letter's authors also write that if an unelected oligarch is influencing US policy through his AI-created alter ego, Americans have a right to know how government decisions are made.
What happens next
It is not yet known whether Trump or the White House will respond to the letter. The case suggests that officials' conversations with chatbots are starting to be treated as potential government records subject to archiving. For Polish readers, it is a signal that the question of a decision trail when working with AI concerns not only administrations but also the companies and public offices deploying such tools.
