Elon Musk's Daughter Fronts Fashion Campaign Targeting AI

Spanish brand Desigual has launched a "Born to Disobey" campaign starring Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk's daughter, who torments a humanoid robot resembling Tesla's Optimus in the ad. Wilson says artificial intelligence takes jobs from creators and harms the environment.
Spanish clothing brand Desigual has unveiled a new ad campaign in which 22-year-old Vivian Wilson, daughter of Elon Musk, walks a humanoid robot resembling Tesla's Optimus on a leash, uses it as a golf prop, and tries to teach it tricks it cannot perform. The machine keeps malfunctioning throughout the spot, and the brand's message is that true rebellion means refusing to become part of a system built around artificial intelligence.
A Robot Built to Fail
In the ad, Wilson puts the DESI84 robot through situations it was never built for: making it say the brand's name, walking it on a leash like a dog, using it as a rest for her golf swing. The machine keeps failing until, in the final scene, it suffers a total breakdown and is dragged off set. The campaign's creators made no secret that choosing a robot resembling Tesla's Bot was deliberate, a direct nod to the company run by the model's father, from whom Wilson is estranged.
To achieve the robot's mechanical, stiff posture, the production hired a motion-capture actor who spent several days studying footage of the Tesla Bot to replicate its distinctive gait and gestures. Only then did visual effects studio The Post Office translate his performance into the rendered DESI84 model, adding digital glitches and breakdowns at key moments in the spot.

Family Context
Vivian Jenna Wilson was born in 2004 as the son of Elon Musk and writer Justine Wilson. At 16, she began transitioning with both parents' consent, and after turning eighteen she won a court case to change her name, formally severing the tie to her father's surname. She has publicly criticized Musk for years, and the Desigual campaign is another high-profile moment in which her name draws media attention regardless of her own achievements as a model and online creator.
Desigual makes no secret that casting Wilson carried a double meaning: criticism of AI and robotics combined with the recognition value of the Musk name. In an interview with People magazine, the model addressed the tension between her family history and the ad's message herself, framing her involvement as a stance on technology rather than an attempt to settle scores with her father.
The AI Dispute in Fashion
Wilson explained her participation in the campaign as opposition to generative AI replacing creators in the fashion and advertising industries. In her view, AI doesn't just take jobs from designers, photographers and graphic artists, it also carries environmental costs tied to powering the data centers that run generative models.
Art is emotion expressed through expression. Because emotion is inherently human, AI strips a work of its intention and replaces it with plagiarized colors and shapes. - Vivian Wilson, model
The brand struck a similar tone in the statement accompanying the campaign, arguing that in an age of algorithms and automation, the biggest act of rebellion is no longer fighting the system but refusing to become part of it.
What It Means for the Industry
Desigual joins a group of fashion and entertainment brands that in recent months have been building their image around an openly critical stance on generative AI, betting that for some customers a 'zero AI' declaration will become a purchasing argument as powerful as 'organic' or 'fair trade' once were. That marks a reversal from recent years, when brands touted their AI adoption in collection design and visual campaigns.
For Poland's advertising and fashion market, the campaign signals that a brand's stance on AI is becoming part of its strategy, not just a technical choice of production tool. Brands investing in generative images and ad video may find competitors building their messaging on opposing exactly those practices.
The Desigual campaign also lands amid heightened debate over using the faces and images of public figures' relatives in marketing. In this case, the Musk name acts as a reach amplifier, regardless of the fact that father and daughter have had a publicly strained relationship for years. The video promoting the fall-winter 2026 collection is already online and has quickly drawn comments from both fashion fans and observers of the Tesla and Musk controversies.
